This temple is a Buddhist temple and meditation retreat center and One of Chiang Mai's more unique ancient Lanna or ChiangMai temples, located west of Chiang Mai old city and at the feet of Doi Suthep Mountains.
This temple is totally different from any other we had seen in ChiangMai. It was absolutely fascinating and full of interest and history backgrounds.
The tunnels were built by a king for his favorite monk, who regularly advised the king on various matters. And that monk use the tunnels to meditate to develop his mind in peace. Thee are a series of tunnels which form part of the temple and appear very old judging by the walls and ceilings. It is a must visit as well when you are in ChiangMai.
After that we also make a short visit to Wat Phalad ( A hidden temple ) that is one of the most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai and is constructed in Burmese and Chiangmai architecture style. This temple is over 600 years old located in the jungle of National Park and now become a meditation sanctuary. Then we continue to visit Doi Suthep temple which is located on the peak of the Doi Suthep Mountain and is the most famous landmark in Chiang Mai. They say you have not truly been to Chiang Mai if you have not visited this temple! At the top of the temple, you can view the pagoda made in the architecture style of the Lanna Kingdom and shining with real gold and jewels. The pagoda is believed to enshrine the holy relics of the Lord Buddha.
