In the morning we head south of Chiang Mai towards Doi Inthanon National Park which encompasses the highest mountain in Chiang Mai.   Our first stop is an elephant farm where you can enjoy nature on the mountains as you ride through dense jungle on an elephant.  We then go bamboo rafting down a river where Northern Thais enjoy swimming and set up restaurants along the river banks selling authentic local food and whiskey.
 Next stop is the national park for dirt road driving  to a hidden hilltop temple with one of the biggest Buddha images  and an ancient pagoda.  Here you can forget the busy city and enjoy the stunning view overlooking a hill tribe village and a myriad of surrounding mountains.  We then visit the Royal Project, an initiative set up by His Majesty the King to give locals an alternative to growing opium and practicing slash-and-burn farming.
 We take an afternoon break at the Hmong hill tribe market before we head to a fantastic view point of the hill tribe village to try their locally grown coffee (that we like to call mountain Star Bucks!).  To end the day we visit the one of the biggest waterfalls in the national park so have your camera ready for great photo opportunities.
